A Masters in education can be a great degree for any teacher to consider going for. It can also be easily coupled with a teaching fellowship program. Although hands on approaches are usually best with education, a person can also pursue a Masters in education without the intention of teaching.
Many teachers enter into a school with a degree in something like math
or science and a degree in education. There are many benefits however to getting a Masters in education. Many teachers are even offered incentives from their school system. A teacher may receive better pay or better benefits. They may even be able to qualify for different jobs or be able to offer different classes. There are many innovative ways to teach your classic subjects. An English and a history teacher may choose to make a class that incorporates the two subjects. Many subjects have over lap and making an innovative and special class can be just the way to grab students' attention. It can also help a student to get into a better college if admissions see that they took part in a special class.
A Masters in education is also well combined with a teaching fellowship. While a student is taking classes on education, they also usually need a number of hours actually teaching. A teaching fellowship allows these students to work as teaching assistants to professors while they are
getting their Masters in education. As they advance in their classes they can also end up in charge of teaching entry-level courses. A teaching fellowship offers many great things for students aside from just practical experience. Teaching fellowships open doors and let students meet a great many people. These people can be perspective employers. Also it helps students to build their CV. This is important because it is a person's resume when applying for teaching positions.
Some people are only interested in the academic aspects of a Masters in education. There are many people who are interested in diversifying their portfolios. People often elect to take classes as pass/fail or even just to sit in on class lectures. Sometimes when a student pursues a certain degree, it includes many of the requirements of another. A person who is pursuing a Masters in child psychology may have many classes in common with a person pursuing a degree in teaching children with disabilities. A psychologist may have no interest in getting any experience in teaching a class. They may only want to take the classes on education and can then get their Masters in education. Although most degree programs do require a certain amount of teaching, a psychology student may be able to use their psych labs as their hours teaching.
